What's New for Indian Travelers in 2026?

There are three main updates for Indian travelers in 2026, related to Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. This is what has changed:

Thailand's Big Upgrade

Thailand has reduced its 60-day visa exemption to 30 days. This is in place from 15th September, 2026. If you want to stay longer, you can extend your stay for 30 more days, but don’t forget to fill out the TDAC before you fly.

Philippines Welcomes Indians

Starting June 8, 2025, Indians can stay in the Philippines without a visa for 14 days. If Indians have a visa or permanent residency from countries such as the US, UK, Australia, or others, they can stay for 30 days instead.

Malaysia Extends Visa-Free Stay

Malaysia has extended its 30-day visa-free entry for Indians until 31 December 2026. You’ll need to fill out the MDAC before arrival and have proof of funds or onward travel.

Where Do Indians Still Need a Visa?

Apart from the 27 visa-free countries for Indian passport holders, Indians still need to have a visa in 66 countries. These include countries like the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK, and all Schengen countries require Indians to still have a visa. These are a few things to expect for these countries:

  • US: Appointment slots can take weeks, sometimes months, in peak season.

  • Canada: Also long waits for tourist visas.

  • UK: Same as the US and Canada.

Countries like Turkey, Vietnam, Kenya, and Sri Lanka now run e‑visa systems. The e-visa system simply requires you to fill out a form online instead of having to physically go to an embassy.

To Sum It Up

Many more countries are open to Indian travelers now than they were a year ago. Visiting these countries doesn't require much either. Just a little bit of planning around the entry rules and some funding for the trip. Visa-free travel destinations for Indians have increased substantially. A passport will no longer hold Indians back from a weekend in Bhutan or a longer stretch in Mauritius. You can also choose to travel on a budget by opting for a travel loan. Finnable offers a personal loan starting at 16% per annum, which can cover flights, hotels, and other trip costs.

A valid passport is required for children. In some places like the Philippines and Mauritius, kids have to follow rules as adults when it comes to showing proof of return.

Extending the duration of the stay with a visa-on-arrival, or in a visa-free country, depends on the country and its regulations.

Most countries charge a fine for each day someone stays past the allowed time. There might also be a ban on traveling to the country.

Yes! Finnable offers an unsecured personal loan that can cover flights, accommodation, and activities, with loans for up to ₹10 lakhs.
