The mAadhaar app is UIDAI’s official mobile application for managing Aadhaar services on your smartphone. Who Can Use the App? 

Any Aadhaar holder with a registered mobile number can use full features. Without registered mobile, limited services remain accessible. 

The app supports up to 5 Aadhaar profiles, useful for managing family members’ Aadhaar from one device. Each profile requires separate OTP authentication. 

Supported Languages 

mAadhaar supports 13 Indian languages including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Odia, Assamese, and Urdu. Language selection happens during initial setup.

System Requirements and Compatibility 

Android: Version 5.0 and above. iOS: Version 12.0 and above. Storage: approximately 50 MB. Internet: Mobile data required (WiFi has limitations).

Steps to Register Your Aadhaar Profile 

Complete the mAadhaar app login and registration process: 

Step 1: Open the app after installation. Accept terms and conditions. 

Step 2: Set a 4-digit PIN for app security. This PIN protects local access. 

Step 3: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number or 16-digit VID (Virtual ID). 

Step 4: Request OTP on registered mobile number. Enter OTP within validity period.

For subsequent logins: open app and enter 4-digit PIN. Biometric authentication (fingerprint/face) if enabled. Access all features immediately.

Handling OTP Verification

Multiple Profile Management

Downloading Aadhaar and PVC Card Ordering 

Download e-Aadhaar directly to phone in PDF format. The downloaded Aadhaar is digitally signed and legally valid. 

Password to open PDF: First 4 letters of name (CAPITAL) + birth year (YYYY). 

Order PVC card through app for ₹50 including delivery. Card arrives within 2 to 3 weeks at registered address. 

Biometric Locking and Unlocking 

Lock your biometrics to prevent misuse. When locked: nobody can authenticate using your fingerprint or iris, services requiring biometric verification will not work. Unlock temporarily when needed, relock after use. 

This feature protects against unauthorised Aadhaar-based transactions. 

Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) Generation 

Generate TOTP within app for Aadhaar authentication. TOTP changes every 30 seconds, eliminating dependency on SMS OTP. 

Useful when mobile network is unavailable, SMS is delayed, or instant authentication is needed. TOTP works for most Aadhaar-based services accepting OTP authentication. 

Updating Address via Document Upload 

Update address by uploading supporting documents. Acceptable documents include passport, bank statement, utility bill, and rent agreement. Upload clear images through app. Pay ₹50 online for address update. Request processed within 7 to 10 days. 

Note: Only address update available via app. Name, DOB, gender changes require enrolment centre visit. 

Sharing eKYC and QR Code 

Share Aadhaar details via QR code for instant verification. The QR contains demographic details encrypted securely. 

eKYC sharing works for bank account opening, SIM activation, insurance verification, and government services. No physical document needed when verifier accepts digital Aadhaar. 

Tracking Authentication and Update History 

View complete history of Aadhaar authentication attempts (where your Aadhaar was used), update requests and their status, and lock/unlock history. 

Monitor for unauthorised usage. Report suspicious authentications to UIDAI.

Available Limited Services 

Without registered mobile, you can still: view Aadhaar details if already added, generate QR code from existing profile, access help and FAQs, and use TOTP if profile already set up. 

Benefits and Limitations 

Major limitations without registered mobile: cannot create new profile, cannot download fresh e-Aadhaar, cannot order PVC card, cannot update any details, and cannot lock/unlock biometrics. 

Register your mobile number before expecting full mAadhaar app functionality. 

Biometric Security Features 

The app stores no biometric data locally. All authentication happens through UIDAI servers. 

Additional security layers include PIN protection for app access, optional biometric login (fingerprint/face ID), auto-logout after inactivity, and encrypted data transmission. 

Data Privacy Measures by UIDAI 

UIDAI follows strict data protection protocols: minimal data collection, no sharing with third parties, end-to-end encryption, and regular security audits. 

Your Aadhaar data remains under UIDAI control, not stored on app servers. 

Best Practices for Safe Usage 

Keep app updated to latest version. Never share PIN with anyone. Enable biometric lock when not actively using Aadhaar services. Regularly check authentication history. Report unauthorised access immediately.

App Not Working on WiFi 

mAadhaar requires mobile network for SIM-based authentication. WiFi connections cannot verify your registered mobile number. 

Solution: Switch to mobile data for authentication. WiFi works for browsing within app after mAadhaar app login is complete. 

Payment Failures and Error Handling 

For PVC card or address update payments: ensure sufficient balance, check internet stability, use different payment method if one fails, wait 24 hours before retrying if amount debited but order failed, and contact UIDAI support with transaction reference. 

Request Status Tracking Confusion 

Status shows “Pending” for extended periods sometimes. Typical processing times: address update 7 to 10 days, PVC card order 2 to 3 weeks, biometric lock/unlock instant.

Acceptance as Valid ID Proof 

mAadhaar (QR code display) is legally valid identity proof across India. Accepted for bank account operations, government office submissions, hotel check-ins, exam hall entry, and airport ID verification (domestic).
