The Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is a crucial savings scheme for employees in India, helping them build a financial safety net for their post-retirement years. Monitoring the EPF balance regularly is essential to stay informed about the growing corpus and plan for a secure future.
Thankfully, with the digitalization measure taken by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), the process of checking your EPF balance has become more convenient with the availability of online methods. We are here to guide you on how to check the PF balance online.

How to Check EPF Balance Online?

Checking your EPF balance is super easy. All you need to do is follow these simple few steps and you can find out your PF balance conveniently:

Universal Account Number (UAN) Activation

Before you can check your EPF balance online, you need to activate your Universal Account Number (UAN). The UAN is a unique 12-digit number assigned to every EPF account holder. You can obtain your UAN from your employer or the EPFO UAN activation portal. Once you have the UAN, activate it by visiting the EPF member portal and following the registration process. You will need to provide details such as your UAN, mobile number, and EPF account information during the activation process.

EPF Member Portal Login

After successfully activating your UAN, you can log in to the EPF member portal using your UAN and password. If it is your first time logging in, the portal will prompt you to change your password for security reasons.

View EPF Passbook

Once you are logged in, you can view your EPF passbook, which displays the details of all your EPF transactions, including contributions made by you and your employer, accrued interest, and any withdrawals. The passbook will also show the opening balance, contributions for the current financial year, and the closing balance.

Different Methods of Online EPF Balance Check

There are many ways for you to check your EPF balance from the comfort of your own home. Apart from the EPF member portal, you can also use these pathways to know how much value you have accumulated in your EPF account:

Missed Call Facility

If you prefer a more straightforward way to check your EPF balance without going online, you can use the missed call facility. Ensure that your UAN is linked to your mobile number, and then give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number. You will receive an SMS with your EPF balance details shortly after.

EPFO Mobile App

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced a mobile app to provide easy access to your EPF account. Download the EPFO mobile app, UMANG, from Google Play Store or Apple App Store, log in using your UAN and password, and check your EPF balance on the go.

SMS Service

You can also check your EPF balance by sending an SMS from your registered mobile number. Type EPFOHO UAN ENG and send it to 7738299899. Replace ‘ENG’ with the first three letters of the language you prefer (e.g., HIN for Hindi, MAR for Marathi, etc.). You will receive an SMS with your EPF balance details in the chosen language.
